Are you fearless when it come to technology in the classroom?

Many of us shiver at the thought of yet another new technology, to learn, understand and incorporate into our classrooms. But is this really the response we should have?

I have come across two blogs which discuss this in detail with their views on the subject. Firstly, You don’t need to be a technology whiz but you do need to be fearless outlines their views on six different types of teachers and their responses to technology. They then go on to offer advice on how to be fearless when it comes to trying out new technology. For example, some of the advice given is don’t blame the tool, you don’t have to love it but do try it, mess with it and be fearless! My views and thoughts from this blog challenged me to think to do we show children that we are fearless to technology and are willing to give it a go, or do we show our revervations towards it and therefore pass this on the children as well?

But don’t worry, we don’t all need to have the latest technology and gadgets in our classrooms, to help children learn. The Second blog based on this view that it’s not about the gadgets but about incorporating technology into the classroom, outlines why we should not be fearless when it comes to technology. They suggest that by just adding typing to a lesson does not make it incorporating technology as most children can already do this. They suggest incorporating technology means teaching children how to use it effectively like being able to stay safe on the net, what is there to fear about this?

I hope this has given you a few things to think about and how we don’t need to fearful when it comes to new technologies and how to incorporate it into the classroom. I now know that you don’t have to worry about getting it wrong or being unsure as there is help out there, and you can learn alongside your children:)
